Bound To Happen

A 90-year-old Ohio woman, facing eviction from the home she has lived in for 38 years, shot and wounded herself this week, becoming a grim symbol of the U.S. home mortgage crisis.

Addie Polk was found lying on the floor of her home with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her shoulder when police came to the home on Wednesday to serve an eviction notice, Akron police spokesman Lt. Rick Edwards said on Friday.

Polk survived the shooting and is being treated in a hospital.

It was the latest attempt by sheriff's deputies to evict Polk from her modest single-family home because she could not keep up with her mortgage.

Local news reports said deputies had tried to serve Polk's eviction notice more than 30 times before Wednesday's shooting.

Wow 30 times...there are neighborhoods in Detroit where you have to call the cops 30 times before they show once.

Why is it in Ohio the police apparently work for the mortgage company directly?

I wonder if they saw themselves pulling 90 year old women out of foreclosed houses when they went into law enforcement?

Between you and I cops have better things to do and probably would rather NOT be pulling 90 year old women out of foreclosed homes but look where the orders come from.

The bank and the mortgage company.

Just like the founding fathers intended?

I think not.

Fannie Mae forgave this loan after it hit the media...wow surprise...but hey they just got $700 million, they don't need this old lady's money anymore, her house was just bought and paid for by you and I....we're heroes.

Give Us Your Poor...No Wait Send Them Over There.

Michigan no longer land of promise for Iraqi refugees

Michigan's economy is so bad that State Department is sending fewer Iraqi refugees to the area because of concerns that their future would not be bright.

After a request by relief workers, the policy of bringing Iraqis to Metro Detroit if relatives or friends live in the area was changed to allow only those with immediate family to settle here, according to the State Department.

"The State Department has taken the measure of things and decided it would be better to send them somewhere else, where they might be self-sufficient, instead of coming to Michigan, because the economy is very bad here and we have the highest unemployment in the country," Belmin Pinjic of Lutheran Social Services of Michigan said Thursday. The agency is one of several designated by the federal government to provide relief to the refugees.

Give us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses longing to be free...wait better send them somewhere else, I can't even find a job.

If any headline encapsulates the plight of Michigan, it is listed above.

Yes it's that bad here, and people wonder why Michigan is a blue state.

We are turning away refugees because they have a better chance somewhere else...

Wait let me phrase this so everyone can fully understand...

A typical Michigander is worse off than a Iraqi refugee.

Media Gushes Over Palin, She Avoided Peeing Pants

Joe Biden's task was to attack. Sarah Palin's was to attack, connect and stick to her folksy script.

While both vice presidential candidates succeeded in their only debate of the campaign Thursday night, the stakes were much higher and the bar was much lower for Palin. So, in the contest of low expectations, Palin won.

If nothing else, the first-term Alaska governor got past the raft of nonsensical and meandering answers in evening news interviews with Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson, the spoofs by Saturday Night Live and the mockery of late-night comics.

From her first words, a confident Palin sought to connect with voters whose confidence in her qualifications has waned. She sprinkled down-home phrases throughout her answers -- "bless their hearts" and "darn right." Americans weren't just people they were "Joe Six-Pack" and "Hockey Moms." And who needs polls, she suggested, when there are youth soccer games with parents on the sidelines.

"I'll betcha you're going to hear some fear in that parent's voice," Palin said.

Oh God help us...Palin avoids crapping her pants on stage and the media congratulates her for not doing so.

Listen to the content or lack thereof.

Sarah Palin could and did nothing more than parrot the party line, I watched the whole thing and heard nothing, I repeat NOTHING of substance.

Cliches and catch phrases may work on the more remedial of the population but not with me.

It was some of the most ridiculous, condescending banter I have ever heard in my life.

If McCain strokes out in office , do you want someone who thinks "at the end of the day, it'll all be alright." with their finger hovering over the button?

This ladie's simplistic view of the world is more than an insult to the American people, it's plain dangerous.

Palin's statement of agreeing with Cheney's views on the vice president's role and responsibilities were also terribly frightening.

If there has been anyone who has damaged the constitution more in this country than Dick Cheney and his interpretation of his current office, you would be hard pressed to find him.

Biden said it best, The Vice-President is to do one thing, break tie votes.

Other than that he or she would step into the Presidency should the need arise.

That is it, cut and dry just how the founding fathers wanted it, not how Dick wanted it.

The mere fact that Palin publicly admits she agrees with how Cheney distorted the constitution to his benefit is reason enough to say she is unfit for office.

Last night I wanted to hear concrete plans, I got them, but I only got them from Biden, Sarah Palin fell far short of saying anything of real substance.

But never mind that, the main stream media has made her the darling of the moment.

Congratulating her for not crapping her pants on stage but failing to note anything more of her performance or rhetoric rather.

Joe six pack got a couple of hours of cliches and blather from the republican vice presidential nominee.

Shame on you media for not seeing the forest because of the trees.
