Thousands Laid Off In California

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California has moved to end a budget crisis by sacking 22,000 state workers and ordering pay cuts for 200,000.

The most populous state in the US faces a budget deficit of more than $15 billion, and legislators are struggling to agree a spending plan.

The cuts, which will save $100m a month, are designed to put pressure on politicians to end the budget crisis.

Like I said in an earlier article, you would think I would be against this.

No way, making California state solvent and not raising taxes for it's citizens is a bold and ballsy move.

I think this is the exact right way to govern a fiscal problem.

I normally hate republican policy but this guy has it right.

This is going to make things happen and fast...I like his style AND his freaky ring.

He goes on, stating his responsibility and accountability to his post.

"This is not an action I take lightly but we do not have a budget and, as governor, I have a responsibility to make sure our state has enough money to pay its bills."

Man I love this guy...says he is going to do something, that he is upholding his office and then does it.

Imagine if all elected officials did what they swore oath to.

President Bush Is Hiding Something And It Is Probably Against The Law

WASHINGTON - President Bush's top advisers are not immune from congressional subpoenas, a judge ruled Thursday in an unprecedented dispute between the two political branches of the U.S. government.

The House Judiciary Committee wants to question the president's chief of staff, Josh Bolten, and former legal counsel Harriet Miers about the firing in 2006 of nine U.S. attorneys.

But Bush says they are immune from such subpoenas, arguing that Congress can't force them to testify or turn over documents.

There is only one reason anyone ever refuses to talk, they have something to hide.

I have no problem going before congress, why would these folks refuse to go?

It continues:

White House spokesman Tony Fratto and Justice Department spokesman Peter Carr said they were reviewing the court's opinion and declined immediate comment.

The House earlier this year approved contempt citations against Bolten and Miers. They were cited for refusing to comply with subpoenas demanding documents and testimony in a congressional probe into the firings.

Karl Rove part of controversy
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., then sued the administration over the issue. Not included in the suit was former Bush aide Karl Rove, but Democrats also want him to testify.

Nothing says criminal more than someone, not just anyone but our governing officials, who refuses to show up and testify.

The U.S. is now 10.6 trillion dollars in debt, it will take 27000 years to pay it off at a million dollars a day....and this is how they spend their time at the Whitehouse.

"I ain't gonna tell and you can't make me...nyah nyah nyah!"

Next time you get subpoenaed to go to court just tell them what the president tells them...

"I am immune from such subpoenas. You can't force me to testify"

See how well that works out for you or I.

It's Called A Recession Dumbass

U.S. Economy: Growth Rate Falls Short of Forecasts

The U.S. economy shrank at the end of 2007 and grew less than forecast in this year's second quarter, signaling that the country is in worse shape than investors had anticipated.

``We're in a recession,'' Allen Sinai, chief economist at Decision Economics Inc. in New York, said in a Bloomberg Television interview. ``It's going to widen, it's going to deepen.''

The economy may weaken further as the temporary boost from tax rebates, which aided a pick-up in gross domestic product last quarter from the previous three months, fades. Stocks and the dollar dropped, Treasuries rallied, and traders reduced bets that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates this year.

``This confirms the general picture of weakness, but it is surprising that GDP declined,'' said Martin Feldstein, who headed the National Bureau of Economic Research until June and serves on the group's recession-dating panel. He added that today's figures underscored his estimate that a downturn began in December or January. The last time the economy contracted was in 2001.

Is there anyone working in this economy who didn't know this?

The Web Has The Ability To Dispense Justice Without Spin

I saw a good albeit small article today at the Detroit Freepress, source.

It contends that Youtube and videophones have been used as incredibly powerful evidence in court, or just the public court of opinion.

Watch this video, a bicycle rally in NYC and a cop with penis envy or a Napoleon complex or severely repressed homosexual urges or more likely some combination of all three...this cop alleged the bicyclist aimed his bike at him so he had to take him down.

The cyclist was arrested and charged. Later this video surfaced, was seen by about a million people and now the cop had his badge and gun taken from him. The cop is lucky he didn't kill this guy...he'll never work as a cop again...and that makes me glad.

My point here is corruption is everywhere, if we don't watch out for each other we won't get the justice we have a constitutional right to.

This cop in NYC is case in point, he would have gotten away with assault on this innocent man had a video phone and Youtube not been around and more importantly had the good samaritan not taken the few minutes to register at Youtube and post it.

The smoking gun has some great detail about the report and how the cyclist was in jail for 26 hours including a copy of the police report.

Bush Signs New Rules For Spy Agencies - Sells You Out For A Box Of Milk Duds

Bush signs new rules for spy agencies

President Bush has issued an executive order that revises the rules for intelligence agencies and strengthens the authority of the national intelligence director, the White House said Thursday.

"The revised order directs the intelligence community to produce timely, accurate and insightful intelligence with special emphasis on the threats posed by international terrorism and the spread of weapons of mass destruction," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.

Executive Order 12333, which lays out the responsibilities of each of the 16 agencies, maintains the decades-old prohibitions on assassination and using unwitting human subjects for scientific experiments, according to a power point briefing given to Congress that was reviewed by The Associated Press. The CIA notoriously tested LSD on human subjects in the 1950s, which was revealed by a Senate investigation in 1977.

The new order gives the national intelligence director, a position created in 2005, new authority over any intelligence information collected that pertains to more than one agency — an attempt to force greater information exchange among agencies traditionally reluctant to share their most prized intelligence. The order directs the attorney general to develop guidelines to allow agencies access to information held by other agencies. That could potentially include the sharing of sensitive information about Americans.

"Today's actions will help create a more effective intelligence community capable of providing the president and his advisers with information necessary to defend our national and homeland security," Perino said.

Nice...like we could trust them before to do the right thing. Now there is expanded power seated with the National Intelligence Director...let me guess who appoints that position?

What bugs me about Dana Perino is she is a spin doctor...kind of a disgusting career choice if you ask me.

Take the crappiest policies ever made, policies that stomp on your rights a U.S. citizen and explain them in a better light to your fellow U.S. citizens like a kindergarten teacher explaining why we all have to take a nap now.

Senator Ted Stevens, Republican, Family Man, Tool

Stevens faces arraignment in corruption case

Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens is due in federal court to answer charges that he lied about hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts from an oil services contractor.

Stevens is the Senate's longest-serving Republican and has been a dominant figure in congressional politics for a generation. After being indicted on seven counts of lying on Senate disclosure forms, Stevens was ordered to surrender in federal court and appear before a judge Thursday.
