Mackenzie Phillips Was Charged With Cocaine And Heroin Possession

Former "One Day at Time" television star Mackenzie Phillips was charged on Wednesday with cocaine and heroin possession after being arrested last week while going through airport security.

Prosecutors in Los Angeles also charged Philips, 48, with unauthorized possession of a hypodermic needle or syringe. She is out on $10,000 bail awaiting a first court hearing in October.

I am not getting on the same train wreck every other blog in the world is getting on...what I am writing about is I didn't know that it was illegal to carry a (unauthorized) syringe.

Personally, I would think junkies having clean needles would be preferable just for the disease aspect.

Here in Michigan it is illegal in many cities to have pot paraphenalia, for example those feather roach clips that used to be so damned cool to have in your rear view mirror...illegal

A misdemeanor but illegal.

I kind of think this is bullshit, just a way to get money from fines.

Really what does it stop? Its just piling onto the problem isn't it?

The real issue is the drug addiction right?

Not "the syringe" prblem.

What drug use prevention occurs from these minor infractions?

None...just a waste of time and money, our money the courts time.

Stupid Detroiters On Parade

Kilpatrick supporters, one sandwich short of a picnic

A steady stream of people flowed in, out and around Cadillac Place on Wednesday as a hearing proceeded inside to determine whether Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick should be removed from office.

Some came to the building in the New Center area to watch history unfold. This is the first time a Michigan governor has begun the process to remove a mayor.

Calleen Jones of Detroit said she does not understand how the mayor can be kicked out of office without having been convicted of a crime.

"I don't understand how we can have hearings to oust the mayor before he is convicted of an alleged crime," she said. "I am annoyed with the news. I know there are other things going on in the state that we should be focusing on more than this."

_____________

Ok Calleen, Let me explain this mystery to you...its the city council's right and prerogative...they can ask the Governor to remove the Mayor if they feel Detroit City business cannot get due attention from his office due to circumstances...such as the text scandal.

You can be "annoyed at the news" if you want but it is akin to being annoyed with the messenger but not the message.

Journalists didn't make this mess, the Mayor and his upper echelon of staff did...be annoyed with them.
_____________

Aisha Bowen, a 63-year-old Detroiter, does not like the governor presiding over the ouster hearing.

"This is our house. If you aren't a registered voter in the City of Detroit, you have no business with our city," she said of non-Detroiters making decisions that impact Detroiters.

_____________

Ok Aisha...since it's your house I hold you responsible...why didn't you do anything?

Let me edumacate you Aisha...Michigan State Law supersedes any city ruling or decision.

What is being done is legal, judicial and proper...just because its beyond your comprehension does not make it any less correct and appropriate.

And by the way...the pathetic rundown way "your house" has been governed effects the whole state, so yes, those who don't live within the city but still reside in Michigan DO have a say and a right to see justice served.

_____________

The mayor's aunt, Marsha Cheeks, said she will come out to support Kilpatrick every day, if necessary, as she handed out fliers claiming the "Governor continues to slap Detroit."

"When you relinquish local control to the state government, what message does that send?" she asked. "We are appalled that an elected governor would come and call a hearing and diminish our votes. She (Granholm) has clearly indicated she does not respect due process. It is a voting rights issue."

_____________

I fully expect this from the unusually small Kilpatrick gene pool...Marsha dear? It's called the law...your family may not be familiar with it but the rest of Michigan is and abides by it.

The Governor should not only slap Detroit but spank it and send it to bed without supper.

The Governor didn't call the hearing...the Detroit City Council requests his removal hearing...the city council....you know the ones YOU elected...what a load of idiots these Kilpatricks are.

Marsha, Can't the Kilpatricks find another city to go destroy?

There is nothing left in Detroit to steal, sell, exploit, use, pollute, destroy, mutilate or annoy....your work here is done.

GM Cares About The US Worker So Much They Spend $500,000,000 In India

GM opens second plant in India

General Motors Corp. opened a second plant in India on Tuesday, boosting its production capacity in the country from 85,000 to 225,000 vehicles a year.

The factory is part of GM's aggressive push into emerging markets, which have helped cushion the beleaguered auto giant from falling sales in the developed world. It also furthers the Indian government's ambition to turn the country into a manufacturing hub for small vehicles.

"We believe India in three to four years will be a significant source of profit for us," said GM Asia Pacific President Nick Reilly.

The first car -- a pint-size red Chevrolet Spark draped with marigolds -- rolled off the production line at 11:25 a.m.

GM invested $300 million in the new plant in Talegaon near Pune, a fast-growing manufacturing hub about two hours outside Mumbai, the nation's financial capital. The factory will start by producing the Spark -- a mini-car introduced in 2007 that is GM's most popular local model -- for the domestic market.

Detroit-based GM is ranked fifth by sales in India and hopes to boost its share of the booming Indian auto market from 4 percent to 10 percent in the next few years. The company manufactures six Chevrolet brands at its factory in Halol, Gujarat -- the Captiva, the Optra, the Aveo, the SR-V, the Aveo U-VA, and the Tavera -- and plans to introduce another small car near the end of 2009.

GM said Tuesday the new Talegaon factory could also be used for export as early as 2010.

Last week, the automaker pledged to invest another $200 million in a powertrain facility adjacent to the Talegaon plant, which will eventually produce 300,000 diesel and gas engines a year for both domestic and export markets.

GM's investment in India, which now tops $1 billion, pales in comparison with China, where the company produces more than 1 million vehicles a year. GM has poured $5 billion into its China operations and plans to invest $1 billion a year going forward, company officials said.

There you go, GM to invest over 2 billion dollars into two foreign economies, not in the US, not for the people whom built the company with their blood, sweat and tears for 100 years...but for India and China.

India and China known bastions of Democratic and Union principles.

"...for export"? Where? Here?

Are our new GM vehicles going to have parts from India and China?

If my experience with foreign help desks is anything to go off of, I should expect "long wait times" when I need my power train repaired.

Yay Rick Wagnoner...hip hip hooray....hip hip hooray.

Rick Wagoner.....a TRUE American businessman.

Christine Beatty's Last Chance To Do The Right Thing...She Opted To Keep Her Chili Hole Shut

Beatty takes Fifth Amendment in records lawsuit

Christine Beatty, the former chief of staff to Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, exercised her rights under the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and refused to answer nearly all questions put to her at a sworn deposition Wednesday morning, a lawyer said.

Beatty took the Fifth in response to questions about whether she once carried a city-leased SkyTel pager, about text messages exchanged with the mayor and other city officials, and about a city directive that said city employees should not assume they have any privacy rights in connection with electronic messages sent with city equipment.

Well here it was, Christine Beatty's last chance to do the right thing, she opted to continue to be Kwami Kilpatrick's puppet and favorite tool...way to go Christine, I am sure your family, school, friends. etc all must be so proud to have your acquaintance.

Testimony is going on right now in the hearing to remove Kwami (remember Christine? he is your old married boyfriend) and testimony indicates "a woman" called Skytel to order them not to release the text messages in spite of 4 count 'em 4 subpoenas demanding them...was that you Christine?

Did you fall on the sword yet again for Kwami?...could you be convinced to do such a thing?

Wasn't there a ethics class at Howard University or Wayne State University you had to complete...just how or why did you get nominated as most popular student at Cass Tech High School.

If this behaviour is indicative of the class of people governing the city of Detroit or the typical graduate of Cass Tech High, Wayne State University or Howard University....I want no part of any of them.

Note: Per Comments this was pointed out as being a sweeping generalization, I retract this statement it is unfair to judge these schools in such a sweeping manner. - Veritas Mansuras

I could learn better ethics from Saturday morning cartoons.
