Monica Conyers To Get A New Jail Girl Friend

Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers is in Federal Court and has pleaded guilty to felony charges that could put her behind bars for up to 5 years. Documents say she knowingly conspired to accept bribes or things of value while an agent of the City of Detroit.

She also faces fines of up to $200,000.

Action News has obtained the court documents that charge Conyers with 'Conspiracy to Commit Bribery Concerning Programs Receiving Federal Funds.'

Charging documents from the U.S. Attorney's office allege she met with an individual sent by Detroit businessman Rayford Jackson in the parking lot of the Butzel Family Center on November 20, 2007 and received an envelope containing cash.

Conyers is also accused of accepting another envelope containing cash on December 4, 2007 at a McDonald's parking lot in Detroit.

Conyers has repeatedly dismissed reporter questions regarding the controversy. She has been identified as "Councilmember A" who former Synagro exec James Rosendall claims he bribed in order to get a sludge contract.

Goodbye Monica,

You've been an embarrassment, a bully, a criminal, a conspiracy participant, ignorant, insulting...words cannot properly explain what you have done to your co-workers, your family and most importantly to your sworn office and the citizens of Detroit.

Rep. John Conyers was not available for comment Friday morning. His office released the following statement:

‘‘This has been a trying time for the Conyers family. With hope and prayer, they will make it through this as a family. Public officials must expect to be held to the highest ethical and legal standards. With this in mind, Mr. Conyers wants to work towards helping his family and the city recover from this serious matter.’’

So while you (in theory) sleep, eat, drink, commingle, co habitat with a known criminal, a confessed recipient of bribes for government leniency....you rub elbows with the Office of the President of the United States of America and many, many other of our nations leaders?

Sorry John...that's just too close for public trust.

What goes on in that family of yours anyway?

Don't you talk or tell each other the truth?

If your own family doesn't speak the truth, What is the general public supposed to expect from your family?

Welcome To Detroit

Mark Sanford's Penis Is Insatiable - The US Army To Surround And Pacify It.

Republicans have no frigging idea what to do now.

Mark Sanford's summer adventure to Argentina -- no, he was not hiking the Appalachian Trail, as his aides incorrectly told reporters -- is now a full-fledged personal and family embarrassment, a story of infidelity followed by a public confession of the kind that has become all too familiar from political leaders.

But Sanford's story is more than personal. For a Republican Party down on its luck, the governor's disappearance and subsequent rambling apology to his wife, his family, his close friends and all the people of South Carolina draw more unwelcome publicity to a party that needs but cannot seem to get any good news

Republicans in Congress have been trying to develop a more effective response to President Obama and the Democrats, and there is a sense among some GOP lawmakers and strategists that they have slowly begun to identify the president's vulnerabilities. But polls show that Republicans have made little progress since the election. The latest Washington Post-ABC News survey found Republicans lower in favorability (not a real word) than at any point since the early 1990s. Obama enjoys huge advantages in public trust.

"If Republicans talk about family values, people will roll their eyes," said Matthew Dowd, a onetime adviser to President George W. Bush who later broke with the president. Dowd said Obama's big budget deficits leave him and Democrats vulnerable on that issue, but he added, "It's hard to say [voters are] going to trust Republicans on it."

Enough...

These people are entrusted with leading us and they can't keep it in their pants.

From Bill Clinton's cigar tainted BJ in the oval office.

To Sarah Palin's bastard grandchild.

To Larry Craig's glory hole adventures.

To John Ensign's trim on the side.

To Mark Sanford's Argentinian senorita~.

What The F@ck ?!?

I wouldn't dare pull this sh@t at my work even if I wanted to.

These are our leaders?

Is it egomania? Is it megalomania? Is it nymphomania?

Seriously... just rub one out in the bathroom or something if your sex drive is so out of control.

That's why Al Gore invented the Internet....PORN!

I can't take these people, democrats and republicans alike, seriously anymore.

I just can't.

The United States is in the worst conditions it's been in 50 years and collectively the US government representation is getting it's rocks off more than anyone I knew in the 80's.

These are the people in charge, the people most important to the most powerful nation ever seen on the face of the planet and they are getting their jollys on OUR dime.

Or OUR Trillions if you prefer.

I am no prude but then again I am not getting my butt rimmed while millions of Americans go without health care or suffer job loss or humiliating foreclosure or war or terrorism or (insert one of a thousand reasons) and are counting on me to FIX IT!

These people are graced with the privilege of walking in the hallowed halls of this millenniums greatest democratic theorists and leaders and what do they do with it?

Leave stains...

Let's review.

-- Democrat Bill Clinton (1998): His affair with intern Monica Lewinsky may very well go down as the biggest sex scandal in American history. It resulted his impeachment (although he wasn't convicted by the Senate), the Starr Report, and the introduction of cast of characters including Linda Tripp and Lucianne Goldberg.

-- Republican Bob Livingston (1998): In the aftermath of the Lewinsky scandal, Livingston became speaker replacing Newt Gingrich. But it was short-lived after admitting an affair and stepping down.

-- Democrat Gary Condit (2001): The California congressman’s affair with an intern became exposed after the girl, Chandra Levy, disappeared. It dominated national news before Sept. 11th. Levy was eventually found dead in a DC’s Rock Creek Park and someone else was charged her murder this year.

-- Republican Rudy Giuliani (2002): There was no greater New York tabloid story than former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s high-profile divorce from wife Donna Hanover. She accused him of “notorious adultery,” and Giuliani is now married to then-girlfriend Judith Nathan.

-- Democrat Jim McGreevey (2004): The married with children former New Jersey governor -- with his wife by his side -- resigned as governor after dropping the bombshell that he was having a gay affair. “My truth is I am a gay American,” left watchers slack jawed and serves still as one most stunning political press conferences of all time.

-- Republican James West (2005): The Spokane mayor, who long opposed gay rights bills, was recalled from office after a gay Internet sex scandal and more were revealed. He died a year later from complications with cancer.

-- Republican Don Sherwood (2006): The then-65-year-old Pennsylvania congressman lost his House seat after it was revealed that he’d had an extramarital affair with a 29-year-old woman who’d called 911 from a closet in Sherwood’s DC apartment, charging that he’d choked her. He claimed he was just giving her a back rub. The woman had filed a lawsuit against him for $5.5 million, charging he’d repeatedly abused her during their relationship. She settled for about $500,000.

-- Republican Mark Foley (2006): A text message gay page scandal ended Foley’s career and gave his Florida congressional seat to Democrats – albeit for one term.

-- Democrat Gavin Newsom (2007): The married San Francisco mayor admitted to sleeping with the wife of a top aide. But was it a career-ender? No. He’s running for governor.

-- Democrat Antonio Villaraigosa (2007): Weeks after separating from his wife, the Los Angeles Mayor admitting to having a secret affair with a TV reporter. It, too, wasn’t a career ender (not a real word). He was poised to run for California governor before deciding against it this week.

-- Republican David Vitter (2007): The married Louisiana senator got caught up in the DC Madam prostitution scandal. But after his wife chastised the media at Vitter’s mea culpa press conference, he’s stuck it out. And despite the scandal, he’s favored to win re-election in 2010 – because of Democrats’ current lack of a committed candidate.

-- Republican Larry Craig (2007): “I’m not gay,” were the words that made headlines from the press conference where the Idaho senator professed his innocence of charges that he had solicited gay sex in a bathroom stall in the Minneapolis airport after he’d pleaded guilty to those charges.

-- Democrat Tim Mahoney (2008): The man who replaced Foley was eventually derailed by his OWN sex scandal, and the seat went back to the GOP.

-- Democrat Eliot Spitzer (2008): Always to be remembered as “Client No. 9,” the meteoric rise of the career of Spitzer came crashing down after it was revealed he’d spent tens of thousands of dollars on hookers -- despite being married with kids.

-- Democrat John Edwards (2008): After the National Enquirer exposed Edwards’ affair, the one-time Democratic shooting star finally admitted to sleeping with a woman his campaign hired to shoot Web videos despite his wife’s very public bout with cancer and his 2008 presidential run.

-- Republican Vito Fossella (2008): The married former congressman from Staten Island, who had three children with his wife, admitted he’d had a secret affair with a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel -- who’d birthed his love child in Virginia -- after he was arrested for drunken driving. Democrats took over his seat in 2008.

-- Democrats Kwame Kilpatrick (2008): The Detroit mayor eventually ended up in jail after he was convicted of lying about a text message/sex scandal.

-- Republican John Ensign (2009): The Nevada senator admitted an affair with a staffer last week, stepped down from his GOP leadership post and all but eliminated his 2012 aspirations.

-- Republican Mark Sanford (2009): The South Carolina governor admitted to having an affair with a woman from Argentina after not being heard from for six days, his staff telling the media he’d been “hiking on the Appalachian Trail,” and state legislators -- and even his wife -- not knowing where he was.

Don't Call Me Liz

For better or for worse, you have to feel for Elizabeth Becton, and for the assistant at a Washington lobbying group who made the mistake of calling her "Liz" in an e-mail.
Tips to ensure that e-mails sent quickly are also considerate.

Becton is executive assistant and office manager for Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., and in a one-hour period last month, she got angry at a lobbyist at McBee Strategic Consultanting, who sounded a touch too chummy when trying to set up a meeting between the congressman and some representatives of JPMorgan Chase.

Elizabeth,

Attached is a meeting request for JP Morgan Chase who will be in DC June 3rd-4th and would like to request a brief meeting with the Congressman.

Let me know if you need any additional information.

If I wanted you to call me by any other name, I would have offered that to you. I think it's rude when people don't even ask permission and take all sorts of liberties with your name. This is a real sore spot with me. My name has a lot of "nicknames" which I don't use. I use either my first name or my last name because I row with a lot of other women who share the same first name. Now, please do not ever call me by a nickname again.

As for your meeting request, who is the point of contact for this meeting? If it's not you, then I need to know who because it's very time-consuming to deal with a lot of people for one meeting.

Thanks,

Let me put it this way, they don't know me and perhaps they were PRETENDING to know me better than they do and pretended that I go by Liz. They did YOU a disservice.

In the future, you should be VERY careful about such things. People like to brag about their connections in DC. It's a past time for some. It's also dangerous to eaves drop, as you have just found out.

Quit apologizing and never call me anything but Elizabeth again. Also, make sure you correct anyone who attempts to call me by any other name but Elizabeth. Are we clear on this? Like I said, it's a hot button for me.

And please don't call the office and not leave a message. My colleague told me you called while I was away at the Ladies' room. I do sometimes leave my desk.

Here is the real deal along with some very funny comments from people

Elizabeth J Becton, Congressional Staffer - Salary Data

I guess this nut job makes like $88,000.00 a year.

I can't even get a job and this PMS spokesperson makes 88 grand a year!!!

She must have some kind of mystical, magical rack or cooter or both.

If I ever spoke like that at work I would be terminated THEN prosecuted.

Liz...your just what in the "olden days" we used to call a secretary...get over the f-ing power trip and buy yourself a dildo, pocket rocket or something.

Sheesh.

Looks like she has a facebook page too in the Washington D.C. Network.....good luck with that Liz.

Liz, yes LIZ, your behavior was despicable. If my admins ever carried on in such a childish and manner way she would have been out on her ass before the sun went down. Regardless of what you want to be called, your job is not to lecture and harangue people for a simple honest mistake. Your job is to represent your Congressman to the citizens of this country that pay your and his salary and you have reflected badly on your Congressman. You are a public SERVANT, its time you grew up and acted like one or find a less demanding job that doesn't involve dealing with other human beings.

Unebelievable...better rethink your attitude, "my god is a vow" (meaning of your precious name). Prepare for a lifetime of mockery. An apology to that poor Chase worker is in order, or your karma will make you a snapping turtle in your next life.

You have a right to be angry Liz. How do you live on 27K a year. They should at least call you loser.

If your boss works somewhere that has a national approval rating of around 13%, maybe it would be best if you didn't act like a self-important tool. Get over yourself. Like most of us, you're really not that important.

The RIAA Will Destroy You If You Get In The Way.

A woman who won a retrial after a US$220,000 verdict against her for sharing music files has now been ordered to pay $1.92 million by a jury in Minnesota.

In 2007, when she lost the original suit, Jammie Thomas-Rasset was one of the first people to receive a guilty verdict in a case backed by the Recording Industry Association of America, which has filed more than 20,000 lawsuits against people in a bid to stop online music trading and copyright infringement.

On Thursday, a jury ordered her to pay $80,000 for each of the 24 songs she is accused of illegally trading over the Kazaa Internet service. The jury could have ordered her to pay between $750 and $150,000 per song.

In a statement, the RIAA said it was pleased that the jury found the defendant liable and that it continues to be willing to settle the case.

Thomas' case has been closely followed, in part because she was a single parent of two children and did not appear to be trading massive volumes of music.

After her case went to court, the recording industry late last year said it would no longer pursue individuals who trade in small numbers of songs. Instead it pledged to first notify ISPs of people who trade large volumes of songs and ask for the ISPs' help in shutting down the activity.

Source

________________________________________________

The RIAA tells the U.S. to suck it's wiener...and they do.

Here is Mr. Rock and Roll himself Cary Sherman.

He is the HNIC at the RIAA.

What did he win aside from destroying some woman's life?

What did he spend to assure he won the lawsuit which I have absolutely no doubt will never, ever be paid?

Like the woman has $1.92 Million laying around.

Cary wasn't after money of course, he has gold coins coming out of his ass when he farts I am sure.

He was after precedent...which he got.

Now your ALL potential for being sued out of existence.

Funny part is I have been taking CD's out of my local library, ripping them, putting them on my MP3 and digging them.

So in essence the state is now sharing music illegally, for free.

No money to the record company.

No money to the artists.

No money to anyone.

It's like freaking Heaven on Earth and it's all illegal apparently.

I don't know what to think anymore.

Cary could have thrown that money at a charity, a college fund, any number of great causes would have loved to have what Cary Sherman threw at suing Jammie Thomas.

And WTF? Between $750.00 and $150,000.00 per song?

Have you ever heard of a unarmed robber taking $100 from the local 7-Eleven, being caught and having to pay $15,000,000.00 in restitution?

What kind of retarded jury did the prosecution manage to get on board with this?

I guess I shouldn't expect much more from Minnesota, aside from a little cousin on cousin love.

Since when did the music industry get into the business of destroying lives?

It's music!

It's not drugs, or military secrets, or some new fusion energy the oil companies want to keep under wraps.

It's just music and mostly bad music at that.

It's frigging Brittany Spears bullshit, lame ass, over produced, crap.

Here is the precedent Cary Sherman managed to set.

"Fuck with the RIAA and we will destroy you financially."

Who the hell granted the RIAA this kind of power?

Unfortunately for Cary, the Internet still exists.

I listen to unsigned musicians from their own grass roots web sites via pod casts.

I haven't bought a new CD now in about 3 years.

Used or from the library or the web...that's what Cary has taught me.

"Don't pay the bully, just walk around the block the other way."

Cary Sherman and the RIAA have convinced me to never again pay for a CD in the store from the manufacturer.

I have written this code of ethics for those of us to whom the RIAA appear repugnant.

Ethics Cary...sound out the word...you might have heard it before...I bet they taught it at Cornell University and Harvard Law School during your time there.

They must be so proud of all you have accomplished...

I digress....

I call it the;

"Civil Disobedience in regards to the RIAA Code of Ethics"

1) I will only buy used CDs from independent merchants.

2) I will borrow CDs on loan from my local library thereby involving the state and local authorities in any legal proceedings occurring from utilizing legal services paid for by my tax dollars.

3) I will donate my CDs to my local library after my use OR I will resell them to independent merchants directly.

4) I will freely loan or give my CDs to friends, family, coworkers or associates whom may want them for their personal use.

5) I will never again buy a new CD that is in any way affiliated or complies with the RIAA.

6) I will utilize the vast resources on the web for new and original music I never heard before.

7) I will shut off my radio or change my listening habits as broadcasters adhere to strictly enforced play list rotations of what they deem of worth to me.

8) I will openly speak and promote the music I discover without RIAA regulation involvement to my friends, family, coworkers and associates.

9) I will avoid artist's creative works when said artists comply or work in conjunction with the RIAA in any way, shape or form. ( This in particular avoids having substandard "talent" shoved down our collective throats by the record industry, ala Lady GaGa)

10) I will practice my freedom of choice backed by the power of not spending my money in any direction the RIAA directly or indirectly profits from.

Michigan's Jobless Rate Leaps To 14.1%

Michigan's jobless rate hit 14.1 percent in May, a near-26 year high, according to data released today by the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth .

The U.S. unemployment rate rose by half a percentage point in May, to 9.4 percent.

"Major events continued to unfold in Michigan's auto industry in May, which had a considerable impact on the state's unemployment rate," said Rick Waclawek, director of the state's Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives. "Curtailed production negatively influenced suppliers and other related sectors, resulting in further weakening in the labor market."

It's the highest monthly rate recorded in the state since July 1983. Since May 2008, unemployment has jumped by 274,000 people, or 67.2 percent. Unemployment nationally rose by a slightly larger 70.0 percent in the same period.

"It's not good," said Gov. Jennifer Granholm, at a Lansing press conference Wednesday

DUH! Not good? Ya think Jenny?

I don't blame you for doing nothing, I voted for you.

I blame ME for you doing nothing.

It appears you spent your time this term vying for a position on the supreme court that never came to fruition.

Well boo freaking hoo.

I suppose now you will be unemployed as well?

Will I be seeing you at Michigan Works? The Unemployment Insurance Agency?

Will you being uploading your resume to get your unemployment check?

No?

I bet dollars to donuts this waste of a judicial frock leaves the state before her parking spot is even renamed.

14.1% is one in seven.

Imagine it...every seventh person you see on Michigan's streets is unemployed.

How many of those with expertise and skill will leave the state for a job?

How many of the 14.1% will turn to crime for sustenance?

How many children will not have a home because of foreclosure after job loss?

How many will not go on to college because they have to work three fast food jobs to make ends meet?

Was Granholm soap boxing for her entire last term to the Obama administration?

How much time did she spend catering to his campaign versus actually accomplishing what she promised she would do for the state?

Go Granholm, just leave.

You failed at your job.

Why Job Boards Do Not Work

Job Boards Don't Work...period

Career Builder, Monster, etc...my opinion is they don't work and I recommend avoiding them at all cost.

Considering the time you spend inputting your demographic information for free so they can resell it, your better suited to try and determine the potential employer yourself, circumventing the whole job board route and contacting someone directly at the business either via mail or phone.

What was initially a good idea back in the day has become nothing more than a way to harvest personal information about people from the web for free for resale.

If I have to skip one more forced pop up ad for Phoenix University I will go totally ape shit.

Take for example the two choice opportunities I received today. ( see above picture predicting my dismal future)

Pizza Delivery OR the US Air Force !!!

WTF?

Moreover what the frig to they mean by for pizza delivery driver I am and I quote a...

"Good Match"

WITH 3 stars no less....ugh

Keep in mind I have program management level experience in IT with over 17 years of employment in IT. Which they know, or their equivalent of Hal 9000 knows.

"I am sorry Dave, your a pizza delivery driver"

My experience with hours of manually inputting my employment information OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER as to job experience, skills, certifications, etc communicates my lifetime of achievements, accolades and awards in to their massive databases and by the exacting parse and search criteria the job boards utilize after decades of fine tuning their ability to match potential employees with employers to ...

...me being either a pizza delivery person or enlisting in the military.

Now the job boards could and would of course say "Well it's how you set up your search criteria...blah blah blah"

No it isn't, but whatever. What other choice do I have other than personal networking?

Obviously from having the skill set of a pizza delivery driver I can only network personally with the guy at 7-Eleven and my Dungeons and Dragons group of the fellow unemployed.

The Detroit News' Sunday edition has about 6 IT positions, so by that logically extrapolation of the jobless rate here in Michigan I can assume about 243,522 people applied to each one.

Pizza delivery doesn't look all that bad under these circumstances.

The White Devil Is After Monica Conyers

Guilty plea brings prosecutors a step closer to Monica Conyers

Federal prosecutors forged an important link Monday in a City Hall corruption probe that appears to be closing in on Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers.

Rayford Jackson, 44, a flashy wheeler-dealer who frequented the city's political and social circles, often with a stylish anchorwoman on his arm (Fanchon Stinger, why the Detroit Free Press choice to not publish her name is beyond me, professional courtesy?) -- pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery. He worked to win the council's 2007 approval of a $1.2-billion solid-waste disposal contract for Houston-based Synagro Technologies.

(More juicy details of Fanchon's involvement in all this.)

His plea brings prosecutors a step closer to the officials who allegedly accepted bribes. Jackson's former boss, Synagro Vice President James Rosendall Jr., pleaded guilty to bribery charges earlier this year.

Jackson's plea agreement Monday said the courier who passed the bribes will cooperate with the investigation.

Sources confirmed for the Free Press that the courier is Jackson's brother, Lennie. Based on court documents and Free Press sources, prosecutors contend the money trail went from Rosendall to Rayford Jackson to Lennie Jackson to Conyers.

When asked about Conyers' situation, her attorney, Steve Fishman, said he was more concerned about his golf game.
(Yeah I bet, whenever a high profile defense lawyer says ANYTHING you can interpret it as the opposite, this guy just wants to protect his sweet commission he will no doubt earn in the next two years helping old Monica while thwarting true justice at every turn. His parents must be so proud he defends corrupt city officials for a dollar.)

Rayford Jackson won't cooperate with federal investigators in the ongoing City Hall corruption probe. But apparently his younger brother will. Surrounded by bodyguards, Rayford Jackson walked Monday into U.S. District Court in Detroit, where he pleaded guilty to conspiring to bribe a City Council member -- identified by sources as Monica Conyers -- to approve a $1.2-billion waste disposal contract for Synagro Technologies.

While the plea agreement made reference only to Council Member A, Jackson made reference to multiple officials in court.

"I conspired with others to provide money to elected officials in exchange for favorable votes before the City of Detroit," Jackson, 44, told Judge Avern Cohn.
(BOOM! There it is in black and white, now watch the excuses fly out of Monica's mouth(or if her lawyer can manage to keep her mouth shut from his more learned and silvery tongue then) in the ensuing months, bank on everything from hearsay to prejudice as fodder for her defense.)

(The hilarity continues)

The plea deal unsealed Monday shows that a person named as "Courier A" will provide "truthful and complete cooperation in the investigation and/or prosecution of others" in exchange for not being charged.

A person familiar with the probe said "Courier A" is Lennie Jackson, 38, on parole for a federal drug conviction.
(Sweet!, Bribery, City Officials, TV Hotties, Mayors, Thugs, Drugs...this case has it all. I am writing the movie of the week script even as we speak.)

The plea deal describes four bribe payments Rayford Jackson funneled to Conyers through his brother.

The last two bribes were for $3,000 each. The amount of the first two is not described.
(Your kidding right? A few $3000 grand bribes for her political career? Monica was cheap, she must have been on Blue Light Special.)

(It continues...of course)

Rayford Jackson, wearing a dark suit with rose-colored pin-stripes, declined to comment on his way in and out of court. His plea agreement shows that in 1988 he was placed on probation for 3 years for theft by receiving stolen property.
( I can't even get a job as a greeter at Wal-Mart without a piss test, financial and criminal screening and this guy is hobnobs with city officials? Only in Detroit my friends...only in Detroit.)

"I think it's way past time for us to begin to move towards closing this chapter in the city's history," said Council President Ken Cockrel Jr. "Let's name names, let's get it all out there."
(Damn straight, and just for the record this is whom Detroiters voted OUT of office, way to go Detroit. And what is the new Mayor doing about all this? The one they voted in...Oh yeah...Nothing.)

Councilwoman Sheila Cockrel called the details in the court documents sobering.
(Who pulled nutjob's chain?)

"It truly means there is the likelihood of some member of this council was paid money for a vote," she said. "It's just profoundly disappointing."

Conyers did not attend Monday's meeting of the council's budget committee. That's not unusual; she has missed that panel's meetings for weeks.

Conyers' lawyer Steve Fishman -- reached at a golf charity outing -- shrugged off Jackson's plea.
(Because he gets his fee either way.)

"What concerns me today is that I cannot make a putt all day -- the ball just won't go in," Fishman said.
(Monica must be pleased he is working so hard on her case.)

Obama Tells Death To Suck His Legislation

But Is It Right?

____________________________________________________

The House moved quickly Friday to pass the Senate’s tobacco bill and send it to the White House, where President Obama promised to sign it.

Mr. Obama, who himself has struggled to quit smoking, said the measure would “protect our kids and improve our public health.” Appearing in the Rose Garden just moments after the House vote, he said the tobacco legislation was “a bill that truly defines changes in Washington” and one that “changes the way Washington works and who it works for.”

The law would for the first time give the Food and Drug Administration the authority to regulate tobacco products, which kill more than 400,000 people in this country each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The House vote on Friday was 307 to 97, and followed Senate passage of the measure 79 to 17 on Thursday. A key to Senate passage was a vote earlier in the week to overcome a filibuster, by a two-vote margin.

But it it right?

Just had this discussion tonight with friends.

Some former smokers, some smokers, myself a former smoker.

For me...it ain't right.

This is legislation based on the "2nd hand" extrapolation.

Well unfortunately for logic's sake this won't wash.

Under this "2nd hand" assumption I can sue the car makers for carbon dioxide poisoning, the plastics company's for their chemicals leeching into my drinking consumables, the nuclear regulatory commission for letting nuclear facilities infiltrate "MY" atmosphere.

Where does "2nd hand extrapolation" end?

That's right I just copyrighted that shit...."2nd hand responsibility extrapolation"...sweet huh?

Not only does every company that ever produced anything poisonous to anyone ever have to pay..but those who choose to sue said companies now owe ME money because they just used the idea I coined and copyrighted "2nd hand extrapolation"...I AM RICH BITCH!!!

Do we sue someone who blows their head off with a gun?

Do we sue someone who chooses to die with dignity before the cancer takes them?

Do we sue....because we just don't know how to deal with the reality of death anymore in western culture?

This logic dictates that the Food and Drug Administration has the authority to regulate the cancer the sun gives to the unsuspecting consumer.

Are we suing to stave off death? Good luck and if so, I have a subpoena for death if you know where I can find him.

Americans be responsible for your own actions and consequences.

And

American Government be responsible to ensure Americans have the previous mentioned right.

DONE and DONE.

Wayne County Executive Unfit For Duty

Ficano proposes 500 job cuts

Wayne Co. executive, facing $105M deficit, introduces plan for 20% spending reduction

Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano is proposing to lay off 500 employees, dramatically shrink Sheriff's services and consolidate services to balance the budget -- and warning that more layoffs could be coming if his plan isn't approved.

Facing a deficit of about $105 million, Ficano introduced the $2 billion plan Wednesday, calling for a 20 percent reduction in spending and seeking concessions in wages and benefits that include 12 unpaid days a year for employees. If not, another 440 of the county's 4,900 employees could lose their jobs, Ficano warned.

"This is something that has been very challenging, but we feel that we wanted to make the tough decisions," Ficano said. "We're asking that everybody get to their core functions of what they do."

Ficano also wants his appointees to take a 10 percent wage cut and eliminate $700 monthly car stipends and the Sheriff's Office to abandon all services beyond operating the jail and patrolling parks.

_____________________________________________

A 10% pay cut! Could you imagine your boss asking you that?

I have a slightly more effective suggestion.

Since poor management starts at the top and positions, like janitors for example, would be the least responsibility for the county's woes;

1) Examine the salaries from the lowliest paid Wayne County employee to the Executive position Ficano holds and divide that (incredibly vast) spectrum into 100 levels.

2) Start pay cuts at Ficano's level at 100% working your way down to 1% pay cuts for the least responsible positions.

I call it "My 2 step plan" to quickly and effectively eradicate the county's least capable employees.

What Robert Ficano doesn't seem to want to mention is that Wayne County is the probably the richest county by tax base in Michigan while being in arguably the worst condition of all the counties in Michigan.

Wayne county regardless of the economy should be in the best condition of all the counties in Michigan but take a look around...what a dung heap this place has become.

If Wayne County was YOUR business and Robert Ficano was the manager you hired to run it, what would you be doing about now?

McDonalds Gets Rich Off Your Financial Woes

McDonald's Corp (MCD.N) on Monday reported a 5.1 percent increase in May sales at restaurants open at least 13 months, on strong demand in Europe and Asia/Pacific.

May same-restaurant sales were up 2.8 percent in the United States, helped by new coffee drinks and snacks.

The world's largest hamburger chain is one of the restaurant industry's top performers largely because its Dollar Menu has been attracting diners amid a lengthy recession that has sent unemployment sharply higher.

Sad indicator.

Health concerns down the drain when it comes to saving a few bucks, but I can't blame anyone fro trying to save a few bucks. Its just a sad day when your economic class dictates what your diet will be.

Separation of the upper class and lower class has rarely been greater and the disappearance of the middle class has been going on for decades.

When people have to routinely get your nutrition from the human equivalent of a gerbils' food pellet you know that your social class is significantly lower than it was 10 years ago.

Could you have imagined when you were growing up that what used to be dinner with the family around a actual table for dining in a dining area dedicated for just that purpose would be replaced by uniform, processed food pellets from a major corporation in 2009?

Yummy.

But 2.8 % of us collectively decided that the dollar amount saved and gain in convenience was worth more than our health and familial bonding.

What is 2.8% of billions and billions anyway?

Kwame Kilpatrick - Once A Crook Always A Crook

Kwame Kilpatrick breaks the law and laughs at Detroiters

• There is no record of Kilpatrick assigning to restitution the $7,500 bond that allowed him to remain free prior to the resolution of his criminal case.

• There is no record that Kilpatrick has signed over his state pension, earned while he served as a state legislator.

• Kilpatrick hasn't disclosed all assets held by him, his wife, Carlita, or by third parties on his behalf.

• Kilpatrick has not disclosed all gifts and benefits he has received so it can be counted as income and applied to calculations for payment of restitution.

• Worthy also objects to Kilpatrick's request for travel to the Middle East on a United States Congressional fact-finding mission about military health care.

Thank God for Kym Worthy is all I have to say, the circus that is Detroit politics would still be going on if not for her tenacity for the truth, law and justice.

Kwame's amazing disrespect for the law and verdicts of the Michigan and Detroit legal systems know no bounds. He is breaking probation by all these actions but will he ever see jail time for thumbing his nose at the legal system?

Doubtful.

Where did Kwame learn to be such a responsibility dodging, adulterating douche bag?

His parents?

U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Detroit, and Bernard Kilpatrick, former chief of staff to Wayne County Executive Ed McNamara and a former county commissioner.

They must be so proud.

Does the apple ever far from the tree?

My New Rules For TV Viewing

My New Rules For TV

Call it epiphany or whatever but I made myself some new rules for TV watching.

1) No Cop shows of any kind
2) No Lawyer shows of any kind
3) No Hospital/Doctor shows of any kind
4) No Ghost shows of any kind

Why?

Because for the most part I can summarize every scripts' emotional climax with a few succinct words.

Just take the occupation and fill in the blank ala Star Treks' own Doctor "Bones "McCoy

Examples:

I am a COP damn it!
I am a DOCTOR damn it!
I am a PARANORMAL INVESTIGATOR damn it!
I am a CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATOR damn it!
I am a LAWYER damn it!

They all boil down to this same overblown emotional statement sooner or later and frankly, I don't think a new idea has been introduced to television in decades.

Shoot... even Star Trek has seen several reiterations to date.

If it weren't for 7 of 9 and T'Pal I wouldn't have been interested anyway...Hence the sweet photos above.

Whats the deal with ghost shows lately? I mean really? Ghosts?

The Creme de le Creme being those two plumbers who investigate the paranormal (TAPS).

Christ I wouldn't even trust my toilet to these two let alone their on site, over night investigation of my residence.

Here... let me again summarize TAPS for you..."What was that?....What was that?"

C'mon TV producers, try just a little harder can't you?

If it wasn't for the Red Wings and the Discovery channel I don't think I would be watching any TV at all anymore.

Tirade over, you can go about your business.

GM Buys Bankruptcy For Dummies Book

GM declares bankruptcy and how your going to get the shaft.

I came across this article in the New York Times

Source

DETROIT DAILY DIRT translated it into terms the rest us can understand.

_____________________________________________

QUESTION. Is G.M. going out of business?

ANSWER. No. G.M. is reorganizing under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code. The law allows companies to shed assets, restructure debt, cancel contracts and close operations that normally would have to continue running. Once they secure financing to emerge from bankruptcy, these companies are reconstituted as new legal entities.

_____________________________________________

DETROIT DAILY DIRT TRANSLATION. Going out of business? HA! No way, they will be better off than they have in the past 20 years after all their debts are forgiven. Recent changes in the bankruptcy laws made it harder for you and I to declare bankruptcy but this one gets the corporate fast track to the tune of $172 billion.

If you or I went to court to declare bankruptcy we would have to explain to each of our debtors why we could not pay in front of a judge and then the debtor would ask the judge to make us pay...fun.

Now figure all your debts and the months it would take you to go through a bankruptcy.

Imagine how complex and convoluted the finances of a 100 year old corporation that used to be the largest employer in the country must be AND imagine that same company with piss poor board level management of finances which threw it into bankruptcy in the first place...pretty murky huh?

By all rights to be done right it should take years if not decades to resolve. I foresee this as the sloppiest chapter 11 declaration in American history.

_____________________________________________

Should G.M. fail to successfully reorganize, it might turn to a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which would mean liquidation, but that is not seen as likely given support from the Treasury and the Obama administration.

Q. Where will the case be heard?

A. As with Chrysler, the case will be heard in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Judge Robert E. Gerber will preside.

_____________________________________________

DETROIT DAILY DIRT TRANSLATION. Liquidate it how? To who? Be real, Chapter 7 is as likely to be completed as a ladder made of my poop to the moon.

No offense to the honorable Robert E. Gerber but how the hell would he even approach something like this? Introduction of the known GM assets would take years in court.

_____________________________________________

Q. How long will this take?

A. Senior White House officials say the essence of the case should take 60 to 90 days. It plans to use Section 363 of the bankruptcy code to sell assets, rid the company of liabilities and restructure its debt, creating a new version of G.M.

Late Sunday, the bankruptcy court approved the sale of Chrysler assets to Fiat, only a month after its case began. The remaining pieces of Chrysler will remain in bankruptcy for at least several more weeks. Such quick bankruptcies are unusual. In reality, most bankruptcies take much longer. United Airlines spent more than three years under bankruptcy protection. Delphi, the auto parts supplier, has been in Chapter 11 since 2005. The bankruptcy by LTV, a steel maker, took seven years to resolve.

_____________________________________________

DETROIT DAILY DIRT TRANSLATION. 15 to 25 years.

_____________________________________________

Q. What happens to G.M. dealers?

A. G.M. is able under bankruptcy to cancel franchise agreements with its dealers. It has already announced plans to eliminate 1,100 dealers and may cut more. The company wants those dealers to close within 18 months. Dealers can sue to block the action, but a final decision would be up to the judge. In the meantime, G.M. will continue to provide dealers with vehicles.

GMAC, with support from the government, will provide financing for G.M. customers. It is also providing financing for Chrysler.

_____________________________________________

DETROIT DAILY DIRT TRANSLATION. Dealers? Out of business unless they have a proven track record of selling X amount of product per year if Chapter 11 is used.

If chapter 7 is utilized all dealers are on their own, probably will switch to used vehicle sells or a new manufacturer.

_____________________________________________

Q. What’s the biggest difference between the G.M. and Chrysler cases?

A. Chrysler had reached an agreement to sell assets to Fiat before its case began. G.M. is attempting to restructure on its own, with financing from the Treasury. It is providing G.M. with $30 billion in debtor-in-possession financing so it can operate while in bankruptcy, in addition to about $20 billion G.M. has already received. It is likely the Treasury will provide more scrutiny and guidance in the G.M. case, since such a large amount of taxpayer money is at stake.

_____________________________________________

DETROIT DAILY DIRT TRANSLATION. GM's corporate officers collective egos would not allow them to admit to themselves and the world that they failed.

Selling assets would have been tantamount to admittance of failure in addition to the fact all the assets for lack of a better term would be considered toxic since GM had little or no worth to the private investor.

GM also went toe-to-toe with the US Government on the "we are too big to fail" defense and received $50 billion.

_____________________________________________

Q. What happens to G.M. employees?

A. G.M. employees who are not union members do not have any job security. The company can ask a judge for an immediate pay cut for its salaried employees, and can announce job cuts and close offices, just as it can outside bankruptcy,

Contracts covering members of the United Automobile Workers union and other unions will remain in force, unless the company asks a judge to void them. However, U.A.W. members approved changes last week, and the new G.M. is expected to honor that contract.

But in bankruptcy, the company can ask for contracts to be terminated and replaced with terms it can more readily afford, and the union would have a chance to respond in court. Negotiations would take place before any cuts were imposed. Such a process could take months.

_____________________________________________

DETROIT DAILY DIRT TRANSLATION. Attention GM employees you are hereby screwed.

If GM can squirm it's way out of ANY contractual or moral obligation to it's employees and retirees...it will.

The Union will be worth less than nothing at this point as well, what good are 20,000 members if they can't pay dues?....see ya!

_____________________________________________

Q. Are pensions and retiree health care benefits protected?

A. The White House said Sunday that, assuming the sale goes forward, G.M. workers’ pensions and health care benefits would transfer to the new company, and remain in force.

Companies have the right under bankruptcy law to ask to terminate their pension plans. If such a request were to be made, a judge would convene a brief trial on the subject and hear both sides. If pensions were terminated, employees would still receive about a third of their benefits through financing from the federal pension agency.

A company can also eliminate retiree health care benefits for nonunion employees; they would subsequently be covered by Medicare.

The U.A.W. and G.M. agreed in 2007 to transfer responsibility for union retiree health care to a special fund, and the fund would administer those retiree benefits.

_____________________________________________

DETROIT DAILY DIRT TRANSLATION. If GM can push its health benefit cost to US taxpayer, it will. Otherwise it will probably just cut it off regardless.

I would just consider pensions and health benefits as good as gone at this point.

P. S. Refunds on the 30 years of your life you gave to GM are not enforceable, so even though you came through with your end of the deal by giving your entire life away in 8 hour shifts to GM, they will choose to renege on their promise to you to take care of you in your golden years.

Don't believe me? Just watch.

_____________________________________________

Q. What happens to G.M.suppliers?

A. In its bankruptcy filing, G.M. listed its 50 biggest creditors holding unsecured claims, meaning those that would have to get in line behind creditors whose debt is secured by collateral, like the company’s plants, brands and other assets. The unsecured creditors include Wilmington Trust Company, a bondholder; the U.A.W., through its health care trust; and suppliers like Delphi, Robert Bosch and Lear.

The White House said supplier contracts would remain in force, and it has created a program to provide federal help to parts makers. But in bankruptcy, supplier contracts can be canceled.

G.M. is likely to tell the court which suppliers it wants to keep doing business with, and which contracts it wants to reject. Suppliers could challenge the rejection of their contract, but most likely they would have to reach a settlement with G.M.

_____________________________________________

DETROIT DAILY DIRT TRANSLATION. If suppliers aren't flexible enough to move sales to new clients they are as good as gone. They won't get enough money to survive without GM to continue with "business as usual" and any money the do get will take years to get and the lawyers will no doubt have their cut first.

_____________________________________________

Q. What happens next in the bankruptcy case?

A. G.M. filed its initial paperwork with the federal bankruptcy court in New York on Monday. Next, it will ask a judge to issue a series of rulings called the first-day orders, which allow the company to keep operating. They may include authorizing the payment of routine expenses, like salaries and payments to vendors, including its lawyers, and whatever else G.M. needs to run its business. G.M., unlike Chrysler, has not halted production.

Once the case begins, a committee will also be formed that represents G.M.’s creditors.

_____________________________________________

DETROIT DAILY DIRT TRANSLATION. The lawyers descent like maggots on a dead bison.

All officers of the GM upper management will secure their own salaries and start searching the"old boy network" to get another job. Sad part is, they will get other jobs.

_____________________________________________

Q. Should owners of G.M. cars and trucks be concerned?

A. The federal government said it would back the warranties on vehicles bought from G.M. while it is operating in bankruptcy. So, effective Monday, warranties are underwritten by the government.

Owners of G.M. vehicles bought before Monday should expect their warranties to be honored until they expire. Owners whose vehicle warranties have run out are liable for any problems with their cars and trucks, as they are now.

_____________________________________________

DETROIT DAILY DIRT TRANSLATION. No more concerned than those of us who own AMC Hornets should be.
